DETROIT -- Akeem Shavers and Reggie Pegram roomed together on every Purdue football trip this season.
The running back duo enjoyed hanging out in the Motor City over the weekend, then enjoyed breakout performances Tuesday night in Purdue's 37-32 victory over Western Michigan in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
Nearly doubling his previous career high, Shavers rushed for 149 yards on 22 carries and was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Pegram totaled 44 yards and his first two touchdowns.
Purdue piled up 265 yards on 56 carries.
"Before the game we . . . said wouldn't it be funny if me and him both had a great game, and that's what happened," Pegram said.
Shavers entered the game with 370 rushing yards and Pegram had 85 yards.

WR Jordan White had a Broncos-record 265 yards on 13 receptions and became the Mid-American Conference's leader in career (4,187) and single-season (1,911) receiving yards and tied the career mark for receptions (306). . . . Purdue's Justin Siller, a senior receiver/wildcat QB from Detroit, had a season-high 98 yards from scrimmage, rushing for 54 on five wildcat carries and 44 yards on five receptions.
